Fairway woods don't just end at the 5-wood.  Higher lofted fairway woods have become more popular in the past few years.  I carry a 7-wood in my bag for every round I play, and at times (depending on the course I am playing at that day) I will even carry a 9-wood.  I find them much easier to hit than a 3 or 4 iron from the turf, and hit them well on a much more consistent basis than a regular iron.  I sometimes replace the 9-wood with a hybrid - it all depends on the course I'm playing.
